Week 6

Topic 1: My news sources consist of social media platforms most of all, but there is always a thought in the back of my head asking if the source is reliable. People can put a lot of false things and put inaccurate information in our heads. Another way is word of mouth and listening to the people around me and what they say. Most stuff that I am learning now about the world is in class. That is when I think its mostly a reliable source because I feel as if most of the time my teachers are unbiased. I am a busy person that doesn't have time to necessarily keep up with the news. Most of the time I see news information on social media and I know that its a fifty-fifty on being reliable and credible. I don't subscribe to or follow any political publications paywalls. I don't see why at this age and lifestyle I would. I think I would rate myself a two on this scale. In certain areas of news, I am more informed than others. I really only pay attention to sports and what I "need" to know as a US citizen. Being well informed is a good thing, I just think that with how society is today my kids my age don't need to know as much as our peers.

Topic 2: Honestly, I've never been a Trump fan. I do think everyone has a right to speak their side about something but when so many things go on like this it's hard to decipher what could be wrong or right. I am not into politics, I would say that is something I'm not very educated about. I think the press could possibly make some of his words to make him look worse or twist things and they have given him a bad reputation but some of the words he says on social platforms can make it hard to believe that is it just the press making him look bad. I think taking away free press is a horrible idea. It gives people a voice and advocates new things and can educate people on numerous things. It's important for people to keep learning and getting rid of the free press would limit those things a lot. I think we are strengthened when we can voice our opinions and share our knowledge with other people.

Topic 1: After watching the documentary "RiP! A Remix Manifesto" I found that as much as we think we have the freedom to express we actually are limited. In the video, it states the music industry music producers and songwriters copyright their beats and symphonies. I'm not a singer or songwriter yet I could see how frustrating it could be for an upcoming artist to not be able to use a beat or lyric idea from the 1980s, even though they might be able to better their work. I don't know a lot about copyright, yet it confuses me because we are supposed to have freedom of speech and expression although most great ideas are copyrighted and cannot be used by other individuals. Week 8

Topic 1: After taking a look a the list of banned books on the ALA list I saw many that I have read before but what caught my eye was The Great Gatsby and To Kill a Mockingbird. In my own personal opinion, these are both great books with interesting outcomes and morals to the story. In To Kill a Mockingbird the story revolves around a case that remained unsolved and showed the true injustice of our federal court system all due to the fact of the skin color of a human. Now we also have the Great Gatsby a great story that shows you reality behind many things and it proves to you that not everything and everyone is what you think. Keeping students away from books like these at a young age isn't the best option in my opinion, for if you analyze history and facts it is better to expose our children to these books, therefore they learn at a young age how the world works and how they can change it, which could potentially lead to reducing bullying in schools due to racial comments. Media Blog project

Topic #2: Television Show -"13 Reasons Why" Describe: The Tv show that I picked was 13 Reasons Why. I finished the second season that just came out on May 18th. I finished this season and the last time I watched was June 14th. This is a young adult fiction which typically targets 12-18 years of age. This surprises me due to how vivid and real the stuff they put on screen, which includes suicide, rape, deaths and much more. It does state that half that watch are all adults. I chose to go back and watch another episode to really pay attention and dissect their actions. I rewatched episode 11 of season 2. In this series, a girl committed suicide for numerous reasons, specifically 13. After she passed away she let out 13 tapes of the reasons why and gave it to people to pass it down the line of the people who were on the tapes.
