Week 9

Topic 1: Music's influence
A time when I was younger I was listening to the popular music that everyone liked in middle school and it was saying things that I didn't really understand so I didn't think there was a problem until I got in trouble by my parents for listening to it. They asked me where I got this music from and how. I was really upset because I didn't understand why it was such a big deal at the time. I didn't think that my friends were listening to anything bad. I love music so much and its really hard to ask me, my favorite artists and bands, because I have such a wide variety. I love Post Malone, Russ, Yg, Chris Brown, and Rihanna.
Topic 2: Campus Radio
I think it would be cool for LBCC to start a radio station. I think it'd give a voice to LBCC and people to explore in the music industry and it would give people a good opportunity. I think it would be hard with all the competition with how many popular radio stations there are. I think people would really have to voice it and get the word out there about it. I think you could use Twitter and Instagram to voice and post about it. I think putting up signs and flyers and get people at LBCC talking about the radio station. I don't think the school would fund this project so I think they could use this funding called "Snapraise." We use it for volleyball and its asking people to donate to you and this year we raised 5500 dollars. I think that if they send it to people and post it on Instagram and twitter it could get the word fast.

Topic 1: After watching the documentary "RiP! A Remix Manifesto" I found that as much as we think we have the freedom to express we actually are limited. In the video, it states the music industry music producers and songwriters copyright their beats and symphonies. I'm not a singer or songwriter yet I could see how frustrating it could be for an upcoming artist to not be able to use a beat or lyric idea from the 1980s, even though they might be able to better their work. I don't know a lot about copyright, yet it confuses me because we are supposed to have freedom of speech and expression although most great ideas are copyrighted and cannot be used by other individuals. Week 8

Topic 1: After taking a look a the list of banned books on the ALA list I saw many that I have read before but what caught my eye was The Great Gatsby and To Kill a Mockingbird. In my own personal opinion, these are both great books with interesting outcomes and morals to the story. In To Kill a Mockingbird the story revolves around a case that remained unsolved and showed the true injustice of our federal court system all due to the fact of the skin color of a human. Now we also have the Great Gatsby a great story that shows you reality behind many things and it proves to you that not everything and everyone is what you think. Keeping students away from books like these at a young age isn't the best option in my opinion, for if you analyze history and facts it is better to expose our children to these books, therefore they learn at a young age how the world works and how they can change it, which could potentially lead to reducing bullying in schools due to racial comments. Week 1 Questions

Topic 1: I attended LBCC to pursue my career in psychology as well as playing collegiate volleyball. I have a huge interest in the psych field because having an understanding of how our brain works and why/how people do things interest me. My career goal is to obtain my bachelors in psychology and possibly continue my volleyball career. I am most interested in how people get media famous or the things that attract or pull people in. It interests me where our main focus and what we think is more important in our society. I am very passionate about lifting weights and the foods that I put into my body. I just think it's important for me to fuel my body with foods that will benefit me and help me maintain a healthy lifestyle. Although it can be exhausting I know it will be worth it as I age.
